About the Author

Aleida March is the director of the Che Guevara Studies Center, Cuba. From a humble family background, she joined the Cuban revolutionary underground movement as a young teacher in Santa Clara, central Cuba. I have read almost everything about Ernesto Che Guevara that has been written or translated into English and this memoir contains everything that the other biographies, memoirs, and etc. lack, i.e. reflections of his personal relationships with his family, and especially with his wife and children. Even the memoir written by his first wife lacked the warm details and personal anecdotes contained within this beautiful, honest, and heroic, though conflicted, soul. There is a lot that can be learned about a person through the study of their relationships with others, and this work definitely answers many questions, and completes the vision that I have of this remarkable man. I suggest this book as a companion to Lee's and Taibo's biographies and should be considered essential reading for anyone who either loves Che or hates him. What Che's image seems to lack is the human factor that brings him back down to earth, that keeps him separate from the myth created around his image, and Aleida's words show us, whether we like him or not, that we can both admire him and constructively criticize him, his decisions, and his actions in the context of historical truth,something that the myth that surrounds him has stolen from those who loved, and those who continue to love, this amazingly selfless man. Aleida's main goal seems to be to show us how to keep those we admire within our understanding of our flawed human race. Whether you like him or not, you have to respect his iron will and his selfless dedication to the cause. He was, and always has been, a flawed human being; this is something easy to forget about Che, but essential in understanding his true, and amazing nature. Whether you like him or not, you can find something within this mad to look up to. Thank you, Aleida, for giving us what we have been waiting for since 1956, a remarkable picture of a remarkable man. I truly enjoyed this book.

Outside of the pics, this was the worst memoir ever! There were no juicy details and really no new detail about Che outside of the personal letters that she shared that mind you, she refused to share with Jon Lee Anderson for his biography of Che and said â€œthey are too intimate...people can read them when I dieâ€....guess Jon wasnâ€™t paying enough for her to divulge because last I checked she is still alive. I also donâ€™t like how she talked bad about Hilda...but I guess when youâ€™re a racist and have to be persuaded into thinking highly of people who are not white skinned by your revolutionary husband, then you would make such statements like she did (according to Anderson). She also gave her book a name similar to Hildas which to me still shows her nasty jealous side that people talk about. But in a nutshell...buy it used if you must and donâ€™t expect a lot of details because there arenâ€™t any. Her and her children complain so much about how they donâ€™t like Che being used as a symbol to make money but then reading this all I can say is she did the same exact thing, use Che and the idea of Che to make money

I have read many books on Che and enjoyed all my readings. But this book is the best of them all. It shows the reader the husband, the father, the friend and the intellectual that Che was. If you are interested in the Che that was a human being this is the book that MUST be read.

This is an excellent book. The narrative of Aleida about Ernesto Che Guevara is very sentimental. It is sad many people do not understand his ideals in life. His passion for his ideals made him sacrifice himself in his search to reach equality societies in Latin America.

I unexpectedly read this book in one sitting the afternoon I got it from Amazon. It reads like a glittering romantic novel depicting a daring 21-year-old heroine meeting her dynamic 30-year-old lover in 1958 when they were both revolutionary guerrilla fighters against the Cuban dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. When Aleida's riveting narrative needs further explanation, very helpful footnotes at the bottom of the page define the historical significances. Once they met, they fought together and loved together, even in jeeps and, once, in a captured Batista tank. The 100 photographs are priceless, such as the one Che took of the rifle-toting Aleida standing in front of the huge troop-train that the rebels had famously derailed as a key prelude to the decisive Battle of Santa Clara. The rebel lovers got married right after the triumph of the revolution in 1959 and had four beautiful children together. The proven historical accuracy and unique insight of this book reveal aspects of the Cuban Revolution that too often never see the light of day in the Western world. Aleida March, born in Cuba in 1937 and still a determined and proud Cuban on the island, graciously shares invaluable insight on one of history's most famous men, Che Guevara, and one of history's most important events, the Cuban Revolution.

I rated this five stars because I really enjoyed the book. There was much history of Che and also showed the loving family side of him. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Cuban and South American history and also learn more of the personal side of Che.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the characters were quite developed. Would have liked to see more about how the h decided to have the surgery to remove her NI; it was glossed over about her feelings and why she did decide to have it done. Since the NI was so central to the action, her realization of its power so recent and helpful to her that I felt her feelings about removing it must have been ambivalent, and that wasn't really covered. It would have to have been a truly difficult decision for her, but no mention was made of that, other than that she'd have to think about it before deciding. Other than that, I loved it...read it cover to cover in one sitting and wished there was more of it!

Fun fast read with a great heartwarming story . If you need a book to cheer you up then this story is the one for you . Itâ€™s a hot steamy read with insta love bond mates . Highly recommend it .

I really love these books! I love the chemistry between Roark and Lara, I love the action and pace of the book and I love that you can feel the emotion between the characters. It is also nice that previous characters are in this book I cannot wait for the next book.I have struck out reading some dead boring books in the past, you will be happy reading this series I definitely recommend.

The first book was okay, this was pretty lame. Lara' s pity party got old and for warriors to be so hen picked was not believable. Why do these earth women come across as total bitches?

I loved the romance and heart wrenching love of these two who needed each other. I am eager for the next couple, is it Both?... Put me out of my misery and give me my next fix. Lol!

This is the perfect Goldilocks read. Not to long, but not to short. Action packed with a sweet-steamy HEA. Plot that is just right with no hidden twist and turns. Definitely a keeper.

Love the story, it pulls you in from the beginning, the writing flows. Hoping there will be many more books in the series

I didn't do my homework. This was a huge book and not what we needed for just sightseeing in Salt Lake City. There were several large "overall" city maps that I was able to take out and use. I received it promptly and in good shape.

Barry Hollembeak has been involved in the automotive repair industry for nearly 40 years and has provided instruction to dealership technicians for the past 20 years as a technical trainer. I was surprised by this book in the best of ways. I expected an interesting but ordinary legal nonfiction book along the lines of a mediocre text that rhymes with Schmuffalo Creek. As a law student, I was already deeply familiar with the Windsor case in terms of both its factual history and its legal outcome, so I wasn't sure how much this book would really offer me in terms of new information.I should have known better. Even someone who is totally unfamiliar with or uninterested in constitutional law will find something valuable in this book. Kaplan intertwines her personal journey from closeted law student to one of the legends of gay rights in the United States with Edie Windsor's fascinating life story as a gay computer programmer who became engaged to her spouse, Thea Spyer, in 1967 â€” over a decade before New York held its sodomy statute unconstitutional. Both stories are deeply moving, personal, and compelling even to a casual reader. I think it's rare for this kind of text to feel so honest, but I'm glad it is. I think there is a place for dispassionate analysis in law, but it is far from the only valuable trait in a writer or a lawyer. This is an exciting, emotional read, and I felt gripped with anticipation even though I knew how everything would turn out. Importantly, also, this is a funny book. There are parts I actually giggled out loud, which is rare for me even in reading fiction.Kaplan also discusses really interesting strategy choices as a litigator and civil rights advocate. This book raises a lot of issues around the politics of civil rights litigation and managing tensions, even within and among groups that have the same goals, and also has a lot of fascinating things to say about succeeding in our federal court system. Professors who teach advocacy or public interest classes might want to look into assigning this book as a good primer on and overview of successful advocacy in a civil rights context.

First, let me say that YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK. It is good. It is human. It is not overly legalistic. It shows the real human emotions around these historic events in the LGBT struggle for our rights. BUT, if you buy the book hoping to learn more about Edie Windsor, you will be disappointed. Yes, you will learn the basic facts of Edie and Thea. BUT THIS BOOK IS ACTUALLY ABOUT Ms. Kaplan. Roberta is, herself, an amazing human and lawyer. Why do I say this? Compare it to "Love Wins" that was co-authored by Jim Obergefell. In that book, when there was a win or a setback, you got to learn of Jim's emotions & reactions. In THIS book, you (almost) never hear what Edie feels. You get Roberta's feelings. They are good. They make the legal decisions human ... but they are Roberta's feelings, not Edie's. Now I feel like I know Roberta. I wanted to know Edie. BUT STILL, I learned to enjoyed getting to know Roberta.

This was a fascinating book, not only for the autobiographical details of the author's life, but for the legal and Constitutional rights of the woman bringing the suit (Edie Windsor), as well. I was greatly impressed by the tremendous amount of legal work and writing that were involved in this case. My late husband was a lawyer, so I knew a little bit about the way lawyers work, but this was most impressive. After I finished the book, I felt as if I'd worked on the case myself. Ms. Windsor sounded like a wonderful woman: her love for her spouse and her years of devoted care were very moving indeed, as was the fact that she was not well herself, suffering as she did from severe heart trouble. She and Ms. Kaplan were heroic in their efforts and triumphed in the end. I think that Ms. Kaplan is brilliant, and compassionate, too: an important combination for a great lawyer! Thank goodness they made sure that all people have their civil rights! I couldn't put it down.

We see the right amount of what each woman is thinking and what motivates them without revealing too much. It started slow and built to surprise me. The themes linger long after finishing it. Itâ€™s layered. It has messages and symbolism if you want to look for it. It deals with families, parenting, corporations, capitalism, and classism by telling a story.Itâ€™s an excellent book for a reading group and I wish there was a reading guide to go with it!

This book grabbed me from the very beginning. It poses an interesting premise - that of a virtual baby farm for those ultra rich people who either cannot or chose not to go through pregnancy. It's not at all far-fetched...in fact I would be surprised if it wasn't already happening somewhere in the world. That said - the story weaves together themes and ideas similar to other books: The Handmaid's Tale, The Nanny Diaries, Brave New World... and also touches on the current hot button issues of immigration and income inequality.In addition, the book introduces some very sympathetic and interesting characters. Jane and Reagan, two women who choose to be Hosts at the farm have very different perspectives on what they are doing and what the process does to the people involved. There are very few black and white answers in the book - even the "villain" is painted in many shades of grey.This book was hard to put down and kept me thinking days afterward.

The Farmâ€™s target is actually capitalism gone amok. Golden Oaks, aka The Farm, is the brainchild of Mae Yu, a Harvard business grad, who launched it to provide mostly nonwhite immigrants with a path to move up the economic ladder. All they need to do is bear a baby (in a luxurious setting with everything provided for them) for the upper 1%. If they succeed, they receive a big bonus, which will take away many of their money worries.The key character, Jane, is a Filipina with a young baby of her own, and a yearning to give her child a better life. She and her roommate at The Farm, Reagan (one of the few white â€œHostsâ€), are there for different reasons and we watch as their stories play out.There is much to love about The Farm. For one thing, after a slightly rocky beginning, the story becomes page-turning. I kept wanting to come back to it to find out â€œwhat happens next.â€ Itâ€™s also chilling, because it is not a far stretch to believe an enterprise like this could succeed when positioned as a â€œwin-win.â€ And, it offers a fascinating look into the Filipina service culture. As someone who had a much-appreciated Filipina companion for my aged mother, the instructions verbally given to Jane by her older, more cynical cousin were a real eye-opener. The theme â€“ the extent mothers go for their children â€“ resonates throughout the book.It is not without flaws. The character of Mae Yu is a little one-dimensional and the epilog is non-organic to what we come to believe about her. A few of the characters could easily fall into that category too until we stop and think that it is the theme that is the driver here, not any one protagonist. For all that it has to say about wealth inequality, womenâ€™s agency over their bodies, and our lack of empathy for those who have less than we do, the book is very prescient. For sheer enjoyment, 4.5.

I highly recommend this book if you have Lyme disease or if you suspect that Lyme disease may be playing a role in your ill-health or have chronic anxiety (or another chronic health condition) and have not yet found a solution. I also highly recommend it for practitioners who are both treating Lyme disease patients and those, like myself, who want to really understand all aspects in order to make good referrals for Lyme treatment.I read it cover to cover in one sitting and could not put it down! I took notes so I could do a blog review for my community so Iâ€™m sharing the notes here:Chapter 1 â€“ An excellent discussion about the problems with long-term antibiotics for chronic Lyme disease and when antibiotics should be used. The chronic inflammatory autoimmune connection is unique to Dr. Ingelsâ€™ approach for treating Lyme disease and makes a great deal of sense. The Lyme facts are invaluable: Lyme spirochete going dormant and hiding in scar tissue and lymph nodes; the nymph the most dangerous; Lyme-reactive antibodies form against proteins in the brain, giving rise to neurological symptoms.Chapter 2 - Covers complex and controversial issues with diagnosis and pitfalls of the various testing that is available. It contains Lyme signs/symptoms and a Lyme questionnaire. It was eye-opening to learn that the bullâ€™s-eye rash is Lyme specific and that changes in handwriting and mixing up words may be a sign of chronic Lyme disease. This is one of my favorite chapters of the book and is very comprehensive.Chapter 3 â€“ Gut and immune restoring protocols and more on the autoimmune connection. Addressing gut health is key to any condition and Dr. Ingels reiterates that addressing the immune system is key for recovery from Lyme.Chapter 4 â€“ Immune boosting diet and the importance of alkalinity. This is my least favorite chapter because Iâ€™m an advocate of the Paleo diet and have found that when done well with large amounts of vegetables, it is healing and alkaline. I am pleased to see coffee is off the list but would have liked to hear his experiences with intermittent fasting.Chapter 5 - Covers targeting the infection in a way that doesnâ€™t impact gut flora and undermine the immune system. This chapter has extensive coverage of the herbal protocols Dr. Ingels has found to be effective for his patients: Zhang protocol, his version of the Cowden protocol and others. He goes into great detail for each herb, including products to help with a Herxheimer reaction, as well as the rationale and protocols for breaking up biofilm. Itâ€™s also one of my favorite chapters in the book.Chapter 6 - Cleaning your home and environment and getting rid of toxic chemicals and products, as well as addressing mold. This is also common-sense to address for any condition so itâ€™s great to cover for Lyme.Chapter 7 - Sleep, exercise and stress reduction. This is also common-sense to address for any condition. I do have a professional difference of opinion for the GABA recommendation for sleep and typically start my clients on much lower doses. I also love GABA for stress and anxiety.Chapter 8 - Advanced protocols for specific symptoms: mitochondrial issues, neuropathy and balance, low dose immunotherapy, LDN and other approaches where youâ€™ll need to work with a health care provider. Another favorite chapter of mine.Chapter 9 â€“ Additional lab testing, SIBO, Mast cell activation syndrome and POTS are addressed in relation to Lyme disease. This chapter is enlightening.The case studies throughout the book reflect the complex nature of Lyme disease and help us get a better understanding about unexpected symptoms, as well as Dr. Ingelsâ€™ level of expertise. One such example is Peterâ€™s story: he developed tics but none of the other classic Lyme symptoms, PANS was found and then Lyme disease.Given that neuropsychiatric symptoms are common in Lyme disease I hope to see more coverage of this in a later edition or follow-up book. I work with individuals with anxiety and underlying Lyme disease is very common, with benzodiazepines and SSRIs commonly prescribed. Using nutritional approaches for the anxiety and/or depression and since it gets to the root cause itâ€™s more effective, plus it lowers the toxic burden and side-effects of added medications.Overall, this book is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it! This was the first book on Lyme disease I read that didn't make my diagnosis feel terrifying, but rather encouraging that it can be managed and even cured. I had followed several of the diet changes recommended and herbal supplements prior to this book coming out and have seen a significant improvement in my symptoms. He is also very clear that not every protocol works for everyone, but provides many resources and options to give you the best chance for healing. This book is excellent, and represents the insights of a very skilled and experienced clinician who has helped so many in our Lyme-filled region to recover.

If you'd like to know what a master Akashic Records reading looks and feels like, then I recommend you read Lois Wetzel's Reincarnation: Past Lives and the Akashic Record. Lois writes in vivid detail from her reading recordings; you feel you are right there, in the scenes. She has an extraordinary gift that heals in the most elegant manner, in accordance with each client's soul journey. The stories of past lives are fascinating and comforting by showing us we are in this grand school together, helping one another learn our lessons. I highly recommend this book for all seekers.

I have read all of Lois' books. I feel she is an exceptional writer and her material is very easy to read and understand. Having a personal experience in my youth had prompted me to become very interested in metaphysical studies. So, for the last 28 years I have read a great deal on many things and past lives happens to be one of my favorite and interesting subjects. I have found this Title to be a very easy to understand and the content is very thought provoking. Lois writes from personal experience with people who sometimes have very mundane experiences that are easy to identify with. Sometimes the scenarios are a bit more fantastic but Lois gives you the option to use your discernment when absorbing the information and just keep what resonates with you. Recently I've been cleaning up my Kindle library and this for me is a keeper. If you have any interest in the subject I highly recommended getting this book. It's certainly believable and interesting enough to read more than once. My takeaway from reading it was that we are more complex than we sometimes give ourselves credit for and life surely is meant for a purpose, no matter how simple or fantastic it may present itself. I love all of Lois's books. Everyone should read this book!! This one really helps you to understand the meaning of why we are here and the actions of our past live affect us in the life we chose at the present. It's an extremely interesting journey to read other people's past lives and how it you can relate to things that are happening in your life. It's not just all randomness! We choose our parents...location...consult with our spiritual advisors on the other side to help us make a good decision on what best situation will be for our soul in the upcoming lifetime. When some of our most important past lives are reveled to us, healing can take place in your current lifetime. I have had an Akashic past life reading done by Lois and it was an amazing experience. It has helped me to rid some of my obsessions that I have held onto in this lifetime and to see why I have felt a certain way that has kept me from moving on with my ambitions!
