Love, love, love this book. It is so short it is like a pamphlet, but it does a fantastic job of showing how the faith is/was taught through art, and what the significance of these works of art. It also explains so much of what one sees. Even if you are not Catholic or a Protestant Christian, this book provides a much deeper understanding of the works of art pictured, the symbols within them, and the intricate ties to the faith. I knew a great deal of this, but learned more AND, better yet, it can help you to understand vast other works of religious Christian art. No one should really skip this book.

This little booklet does a wonderful job of explaining the symbolism in some popular Catholic art pieces. It does not actually have any of the artwork in the pages, but they are easy to look up as we study how certain artwork depicts some of the most important parts of the Catholic faith such as Creation, Baptism, Eucharist, and much more. It was a fine addition to our homeschool library.

I just noticed that the current edition is a revision of the one I bought from Amazon! Having said that, I'd be surprised if the quality and wisdom changed materially, and here is what I mean.Using Thompson's book, I've built with both of my children the Home Theater PC and the Gaming PC. Both work like a champ. I'd add that much like the way the Thompson's structure each chapter, determine what you need, making a list, constructing the CPU, and what the outcome was: was our experience as well. Sometimes, the available parts just aren't. Sometimes there are driver issues and conflicts that you don't expect and it's not as though the Thompson's can know everything before the book was printed.Some one whined a bit about the website in another review. I'd counter that with the affirmation of those who are in forum answer questions that are placed on the bottom shelf for novice builders like my family, as well as answer some truly arcane questions for advanced builders and hardware developers! That the website has "dated material" regarding hardware might be a no-brainer, but asking questions in the forum will quickly provide anyone with updates regarding anything related to hardware, drivers, and known conflicts between components.In the build of the HT PC, we started out with an ASUS board that was (I think) recommended. But, the Plextor DVD wasn't recognized in the install. My daughter and I searched far and wide for a solution. One of the many responses to our post in the forum came in an answer from Robert Thompson, who provided the options for us regarding solutions.The book possesses the same kind wisdom and availability to any builder from Thompson. He passes along some advice about what you can get away with in a build regarding tools-I won't disclose that secret- and just some "watch-out's" that will keep your build from becoming accidentally expensive, e.g., trying to insert the processor with the wrong orientation or incorrect application of the heat transfer paste to the processor. I'm likely to buy this new edition for the next build.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE:I bought this book so I could get better acquainted with some of the things I need to know and understand about basic home computer-making. My daughter made my current machine, and she did a wonderful job. I have had no trouble with it and now I want to make a computer especially for doing HD video editing and writing music. This book is very clearly written, very detailed and step-by-step.Organized and easy to follow. The photos are useful and professional. A Wonderful book...just what I was looking for. The authors did an excellent job with this book.ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE:THE COVER on this brand-new-looking, beautiful book IS FALLING OFF. The cover is just "tacked" onto the rest of the book with a glue that is weaker than rubber cement!Oh well,...I can glue it. It was marked "like new", and it is. Well worth the $4.75 I paid for it (with FREE 2-DAY SHIPPING BY AMAZON).

I bought this book to get up to speed on putting together a GNU/Linux PC for a friend because I had not put one together in many years, and I figured so much had changed. I was right about that. By the time I bought this book, the information was already out-of-date. Also, the support forum for readers of the book, was closed to new registration. I do not know why? Anyway, in the end, my friend bought a Dell computer without an operating system, and I helped install GNU/Linux on it. Too bad Dell stopped selling PCs without an OS. This book does mention GNU/Linux as an alternative OS for a PC.

Let's face it- any book written on PC technology will be outdated before it even goes to print. When it comes to assembling a PC, however, it matters very little (from an installation standpoint) what the technology is. Most motherboards install the same way; as do hard drives, video cards, and memory modules- regardless of the tech involved. This book thoroughly explains the essential functions of all of these important components, and how they are installed. If you need brand recommendations, they provide these as well. Each well written chapter contains excellent photos of all of the installations, too. Overall, this is an excellent place to start if you are thinking about building a new PC and never have done so before. New technology can easily be applied to what you learn from reading or referring to this book.

[Full disclosure - I am a fairly serious recreational runner and a Deena Kastor fan. I have enjoyed following her career over the years.]The book is an easy-to-read chronicle of her running career interwoven with the development of her positive mental attitude over that period. I'd say for at least the first half of the book, if not longer, it was really enjoyable (and helpful) to read about the different mental strategies/perspectives/tactics she developed and put into action to help her achieve her running goals. Some of them you will have surely been exposed to (but others you might not have), however it is helpful to read about how she implemented them to her advantage.The reason for only 4 stars? The message does start to feel more contrived by the end, especially when she is also discussing how she has up to 3 top male college athletes with her every day for training, will spend weeks at the Olympic training center, has a husband who is a physical therapist/masseuse, etc. Of course, I am happy she had all those things - I'm all for supporting world-class U.S. athletes to compete on the international stage. Positive attitude is important, but there were many other components to her success and by the end, the way that message is incorporated starts to feel a lot like, "I was shaken by something... and then I remembered to be positive and grateful!"The writing for many things she discusses (notably races but also life events) can feel cursory, especially when contrasted to what I recall as some excellent, turn-by-turn descriptions of races by Dean Karnazes in Ultramarathon Man.I did enjoy it and would recommend it if you're interested in reading about her career and picking up some helpful pointers on how to incorporate positive thinking into your life and endeavors. I commend her for writing a strong book on her career. I am certain it will be inspiring to both men and women in athletics; I know it was for me.

I don't usually read motivational books or memoirs, but I have become a runner recently, and one who has become disenchanted with my progress.This was the book I needed - without being cheesy or giving overly-broad advice, Deena shares her story of overcoming the limitations she had set for herself, showing you don't always win, and showing that you can work hard and not always see the results of that work but that is - in itself- part of the process.This was a quick read and motivating. I also like that she didn't overshare about her personal life but kept on point.

After taking my dogs out for a run around the farm I pick up the book again and read it again. It has put a different perspective on my outlook. Strive to be healthy, positive imagery, maintain purpose and most importantly remember to play. Inspirational and good reference material. And Deena, loved your walk then run over Morgan Pass. I enjoyed reading this book. Over the years I've read a number of books that encourage Christians to view their work as a way to honor Christ, so that even work that seems dreary and menial can be elevated. And this is a message for each generation and season of life, work is challenging, and many days can easily fall into a dreary repetitive routine void of any joy. This book is optimistic and engaging, I recommend it to anyone looking for a refreshing viewpoint on our calling to be of service in this world. Following is a brief sample:"And what is Jesusâ€™ example of work deserving of a reward from God himself? A glass of water. A small, insignificant, nonglamourous act of love and service. Itâ€™s easy to think that to be great and to get a reward from God, we have to do something high status. We have to change the world. Something Ted-Talk, Nobel-Peace-Prize quality. And hopefully, God will reward that kind of stuff. But Jesus makes it clear that heâ€™ll also reward the stuff nobody knows about. The hard, mundane, thankless work of mothers and mechanics and second-grade teachers and garbage-truck drivers and the woman who does your dry cleaning. Work that doesnâ€™t get much attention or applause"At least a few of us will find this encouraging!

I'm almost finished with Garden City, and I can't wait to read it again! Comer begins with laying the groundwork on what it means to rule over the earth, as Adam and Eve were commanded. I've heard different teachings and perspectives (from different theological camps) on this over the years, but I have to say that this was the best and most challenging take on this important doctrine. From there, he deals with what it means to work and to rest, and brings it all home to our identity in and walk with God.The chapters on work will bring fresh perspective on whatever it is you do, and will motivate you to do it well for the glory of God--or find something else! Not only will you be challenged in the way you work, but you'll also find yourself appreciating excellence and thinking more about what you purchase and consume. The concept of secular vs. sacred ("Christian" products like music) has been talked about lately, and Comer does a good job addressing this.Right before this book I read another good book on the importance of structured rest as a lifestyle. Really, the section (just a few chapters) in Garden City addressed this even better.Keep in mind that this isn't meant to be a deep work of theology, even though it is theological. I appreciated the engaging use of original Hebrew language and Jewish traditional and contemporary teaching. But this book is above all practical and applicable, and can help you deal with your perspective on God, work, family, and life as a whole foundationally. There's no reason to read this if you're not willing to change.I didn't agree with every little point Comer makes. But I don't have to in order to see the overall greatness of this message, and its importance to me and those I know. As I've been reading it, I keep thinking of people that I know and love that I'd like to give copies to. Not to change their thinking, but to give clear utterance and direction to what I know they are already feeling.So yes, not only would I recommend this to a friend (or the girl who cuts my hair, or the guys at the local coffee shop), I'd buy it for them!

I needed this section more than the section of purpose. I have known what I have been created to do since I was thirteen and have pursued a career in the field. But my constant struggle has been balancing my rest with work and being human.I love how he described the Sabbath and shared his own "ritual" routine of his Sabbath every week. This gave good insight, not necessarily on what it should look like. But how I should feel like throughout the week when I make the effort to practice the Sabbath. Loved reading this book. I read it at the right time in life as Iâ€™m in total career burnout and feel stuck and depressed. The first few pages instantly struck me and the whole boom was a renewing of the mind! I also read this too fast so was disappointed it wasnâ€™t longer. Needs a sequel!!

John Mark is an unbelievably writer. This book reads SO smooth and easy. I love how he bases all of his claims on scripture and repeatedly returns to the same thoughts. Love this book and would recommend to anyone questioning the direction of their life, wrestling with feeling stagnant or dissatisfaction in their job, or struggling with how your career could have Kingdom purpose.

Only 20 recipes . Could be the shortest cookbook in history. I guess you get what you pay for! Recipes look ok though.

Just got my air fryer and was looking forward to trying it out: starting with basics and progressing from there. These recipes aren't very helpful: they switch from metric to US and at least one (the cobbler recipe) is missing at least half of the ingredients. Also, some of the directions don't make sense (as if they're a bad translation of another language). I'm glad this was a freebie so I didn't waste money buying it.

Trying some of the recipes. I have a small fryer and food allergies so I have to adapt each recipe, but the book has some good basics

Having the physical or Kindle book, I could have highlighted the passages I felt I would need to reference often. What I did do was put a ton of bookmarks with a short description for each book mark like â€œcheat sheetâ€ or â€œargument arrangementâ€.I would recommend this audiobook. At three hours running time, it can be listened to during commutes or while doing other tasks. Simon Vanceâ€™s voice is so pleasing that listening to it repetitively would be enjoyable. If you can take notes, you will probably only need to listen to it once but you will want to listen to it again and again.

This is a very good abridged version on Cicero's writings regarding public speaking and his philosophical arguments on social and professional matters. I would recommend it as a starter prior to reading some of his original ancient manuscripts. .

The only fault I have with this book is that I am not able to access the Instructor's resources. I have one student who is woefully lacking in understanding the why and how of the human body. This book has been a God send for her when I work with her one on one. She has improved both in classroom and in the clinical setting because of the building block this has provided. My other students use this as a resource when they can't understand certain structures in relation to other organ systems and the interactions. Some may feel that using an advanced resource such as this for a LPN/LVN program is too advanced for this student population. Trust me; the more these student learn the more engaged and the more they want to learn. Book is great however; not being able to access the Instructor's resources limits my ability to teach my students.

This review is for the Kindle version of the text, being read on the Kindle for Mac application. I do not own a Kindle.Pros:The material is explained well. It is concise and easy to read. Conceptually and in terms of conveying ideas, I think this text does a great job.Cons:Image quality is horrendous. I'm using Kindle For Mac and there is no zoom function for the images. A lot of the images are tiny and you can see pixelation where they've down sampled the images to conserve space. I'm trying to look at the membranes of the internal, external, and innermost intercostal muscles and I can tell you that the image I'm using (Fig 1.11) is borderline useless.If you're taking anatomy and need to reference an atlas, you know that 3/4 of the information you need is going to be in those images. This is where this version seriously fails to deliver.Whether it's because of display limitations of the Kindle For Mac application or the actual file containing subpar images, I would definitely recommend you NOT pick up the Kindle version of this text. Try to find a real PDF version of it or get the hard copy version.

I would say that this book is pretty good except for one major flaw, the images. Each image is apparently stored as a low-resolution image. The result is that zooming in on the image provides no additional detail, just a larger, more pixellated view of the same image. Worse, the labels on the images are not selectable or searchable because they are part of the image.I would suggest buying the paper book for this one. The image transfer to the textbooks that my classmates are using looks far superior, and with an anatomy text, the quality of the images is of extreme importance.

Great book. Required for medical school. Note that there is NO physiology associated with text. Strictly anatomy. Do not get for supplemental reading unless you lack adequate anatomy materials and do not need explanations of organ/system functions and cascades

Having never read "Clinically Oriented Anatomy," I can't confirm whether or not this book was largely taken from that. It does feel like it was cut down from something else, however, and not in a good way; some parts of the text just don't flow very well. This book may point you towards the "essentials," but at times, it is so confusing that you might want to consider using a different text as your main one.Despite its prose format, it often reads like bulletpoints, perhaps due to the effort to condense it.The images can be a little rough. I don't mean the fact that they are like cartoons, but that the lines aren't always very sharp.

I used this book for my physician assistant anatomy course. I really like the way that the book explained everything and all the different pictures it used. I wish I had time to read the entire book, but unfortunately I did not. However, it was a really good book to clarify topics that I was confused about and it helped put all of the connections together!

My medical school bases much other their anatomy course off this book. It really is a useful text for context and clinical relevance. Pleasantly surprised to find that explanations are not overly bogged down by minutia.

I love the book, especially the clinical and imaging boxes, and the diagrams. But I was really disappointed that the online code doesn't include access to a pdf of the text. Annie Sloan is the best for painting techniques and colors and Colour Recipes for Painted Furniture and More does not disappoint. I was especially intrigued with her color mixing. I have long painted old furniture and have not yet found better ideas and techniques than Annie Sloan offers and this book provides many new ideas using her chalk paints.

Fun book that makes somewhat complex approaches seem really possible, but not enough projects in the book for the price, especially since so much project info is available online. That said, I do really like her repeated approach of saying she tried something, didn't like it, so tried something else until she got what she liked. That liberating idea alone (to keep working the materials--the paints, basically) might actually be worth the price of the book. The images are gorgeous and definitely left me wanting more. Made me really see why chalk paint can achieve some truly worthwhile results, and made me realize that I wanted to start from this position of being willing to work in more complex ways (with multiple colors in layers, some watered down, maybe some color mixing) in order to achieve a unique, deeply loved, durable dining table.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is a handy book for when you want to do some creative paint mixing. She gives 40 projects, some of which are unlikely to be suitable for US houses, but are a pleasure to read about. You can use her techniques to transform a piece of furniture no one else would give a second look.The ASCP is expensive, so making new colors is a real plus.There is Annie Sloan's own color wheel, using her colors and techniques. Including the warm/cold color theory for decorating. She paints a chair before taking off the old upholstery, demos faux marble, stenciled walls, and painted floors, & shows how to put colors together in a room, and HT dye fabric using her paint, among the many projects. This is a good book that answers the questions you might have. Her own house in France gets the paint-over and my only complaint is that she made me want a house in France of my own.

This book is very inspiring. I've never painted with chalk paint before and now that I understand Annie's color wheel and the combos you can make, I can't wait to try it on our end tables and some shelving we have around the house! Just have to save up a little bit, as the paint is quite expensive. I feel that this book is the perfect introduction to chalk paint. I've also supplemented with some youtube videos, which is quite helpful.

But now I cant wait to get started.This book explains everything step by step clear on down to mixing colors to create more colors.Pictures of stuff done over are stunning .Its like a walk through of her house but never going there except in your mind with the pictures and stories of her home and things she refinished

I loved every single one of these books and the projects I've done through the use of these books have come out very well. I am very pleased and highly recommend them. So do a forestful of animals, all enchantingly portrayed with expressions of increasing annoyance as a ox---a fox and then a great big bear climb into the sot warm mitten.But---a tiny mouse, a latecomer, climbs on bear's nose causing a big sneeze which propels all the critters hither and yon, and tosses the mitten through the air just in time for Nikki who is searching to catch it. On the last page, Nikki is happily toasting his toes by the fire while Grandma holds up the mittens she has knitted puzzled indeed about why has stretched and stretched.The story abounds with delights for reader and listeners: the text is written with almost a poetic cadence with lovely sounding words; the illustrations are bright with color and joyously composed, the story tickles the imaginations and offers a grand platform for talking about animals who might or might not fitten into a mitten. This book is beautiful. The illustrations are ethereal and adorable. The story is sweet and old fashioned in a good way. It might be a long read for young children, but I think it's worth it.It's not neutral colors and relaxing, I like that about books. It's not neon colors and flashy stories with no meaning, just to hold children's attention. It uses some old fashioned terminology and language, but that's a good thing because I don't feel it panders to younger readers.It's beautiful. Get the book!

Beautiful story for children. Grandmother Baba makes white mittens for Nicki but warns him that white mittens are easily lost in the snow. Sure enough Nicki loses one mitten. One by one the animals big and small find shelter and each other inside the mitten. Then the bear sneezes and the animals fly out of the mitten. The mitten sails up into the air and Nicki finds it. Lovely Ukrainian folktale adapted by Jan Brett. Very beautifully illustrated.

Couldn't think of a better story to read to my class of 3-5 year olds.I never forgot her illustrations and the book was exactly how I remembered it when I last read it at six years old!
