Didn't realize before I ordered that it was a small pocket version. Maybe I missed it in the descriptions but its weird that a book like this is sold in the mini form, Personal issue more than the companies issue.

The author of this book had great wisdom to pass along with some interesting stories of his time. I have quoted him lately as I feel many things he said in the late 1600's into the early 1700's apply today as well as when first written. It can be viewed also as a guide to making oneself into a better person too. The remarks of pride and personal appearance combined with the strong sense of duty are a good role model. His references to changing times and the foolishness of youth are well expressed and they too apply to today's world all to well.Though there were a few words that were badly misspelled and somewhat confusing at first ( ie. "pot" in place of "got" "gut" for "cut") it was still easy to follow once you got past the misspelled words and worked out their true meaning. However, the content of the book was what I sought. I have read it in a matter of a couple of weeks, though it could be read in a day without interruption. But to read it quickly would be unwise. You'd miss much of what is really being said. I will read this book again in a month's time and try to absorb more of it's wisdom from the a true mast of his age.

This is a book of reflections on life written by a rather unremarkable samurai just after Japan entered into an era of peace under the Tokugawa shogunate. This made the warrior class into a class of armed civil servants - not an easy transition, begging the question what to do with the two very sharp objects tucked into their belts every waking moment of their lives. The interesting thing about this book is that as someone who has been doing business in Japan for over 15 years, I wish I had read it much earlier. That is because the current Japanese business mentality is very much a product of the two and a half centuries in which the country was run by a class of people who were armed to the teeth and had to follow bushido as a way of life, but in reality had desk jobs and administered things like rice production.Some parts of the book will sound exceedingly misogynistic and weird to our ears, but those are the parts you should pay attention to if you deal with the Japanese. Others are rather entertaining, and yet other are off the wall.In summary, if you are interested in an unfiltered glimpse into the mind of a samurai turned clerk and in getting some insight into the way the Japanese view the world to this day, Hagakure is definitely worth your time!

That being said, the translator for this version is very well educated in Japanese, and did a great job with this book.Also note, as stated in the front of the book, this is not the entire Hagajure, but I am not even sure if there is any full version, at least as far as English translations go. But this has many many quotes and readings for you to enjoy.If you read the entire thing in one day, you are not reading it correctly or as intended. With these types of books it is wise to read a passage, and sit there and think on what you just read. What it truly means.All in all, this is a great book, especially for the price! Enjoy!

The book gives an excellent show of various styles and the processes the artist goes through to assemble their drawing, however if you are looking for an in depth explanation or tutorial of style this is probably not what you were hoping for. I enjoyed the book, because it does explain technique behind pictures. It is not a step-by-step guide by any means. This reads more like an art textbook to explain theory to you than a how-to-draw book, which I prefer.

Love this series. I have both Vol 1 & 2. Tutorials are well written and easy to follow. This is a great source for inpiration and maybe to try out a technique that you havent used before. I am a Computer Graphics mayor with a Focus in Multimedia. Some of the techniques used here I have used for set design in green screen productions. So this is a good book to help explore techniques, you just need to find the time to do it.

Nice and glossy, but thin on actual useful details. I paid too much for this.

A second great volume from 3d Total! I enjoy the heavy page graphics that show clearly what the artists are doing, the concepts and directions they look at, and a good step by step on their technique. I can't wait for volume 3!

Digital Painting Techniques:Volume 2 had a few interesting pages that was not just about painting and drawing, but about the artists' thought process. The book was organized into different chapters specific to certain techniques, ie. creating brushes, painting on a 3d model, drawing spaceships, using photo references etc.The con of this book was there were some tutorials that were not as detailed and thorough as the others. Unfortunately, some of the great artwork that was shown on the last few pages were not included for tutorials. Minor nitpicks were layout problems. The reader would have to keep turning the page to read what the artist was referring to on the previous page or vice versa. I preferred finished illustrations on one page rather than two pages in a book due to the fold in the middle of the illustration. It destroys it for me, but it's personal preference of course.Overall, it was a somewhat informative book, but wish it was more indepth with the digital painting techniques, including a cd with brushes and videos.

The package got to me on time and just the way it was described! Love this book. a good continuation of the first digital paintings technique book. overall happy with everything. :)

LOVE IT! This is the best book to use for learning now techniques in PS! I have been using the program for.... well a long time.. and even experienced as I am I am learning new things... allot of new things from these books. They are the most informative and easy to learn from then some of these other books I have bought in the past. I have recommended these to many of my friends and co-workers and they all seem to love it as well!

I really liked this book. Just skimming through it inspires you and the references and the guidance provided is nice if you know your stuff. I wouldn't recommend this book to a novice but its an excellent source for inspiration for a driven individual! Ought to have some basic understanding for learning through this book.

There were a number of times (especially as it related to eminent domain) where I felt there was really superficial treatment of the subject. Lastly, the book isn't always great at highlighting seminal court cases in a subject from cases that created precedent that is important but not "milestone"-esque (i.e. cases you wouldn't be expected to know by name on a final).

As someone with ZERO experience in the 3D printing arena, I wanted to get something that would help me understand the requirements, capabilities and complexity. I have a technical background and have done a bit of 2D graphics work, but have only seen 3D printed output produced by others who have mostly downloaded and printed designs from online resources.This book provides a pretty good introduction to the process and some (many?) of the common tools. I like that it is divided into "Projects" that begin with a problem and work through to a printed item. Sometimes you want to start from scratch, but sometimes you want to modify something that is already available. Other times, you may want to create something new that is based on a physical object that you have. This book covers both cases. Since each of these is approached differently, it was good to see how that could be done.There were times that I felt that the explanations were lacking a little -- usually when explaining how to do something in one of the software packages. I am unfamiliar with how to use tools like SketchUp Maker and AutoCAD, so it took me a bit to understand some of the terminology and capabilities of the tools used to edit the models. For example, "restore a face by tracing an edge with the pencil tool" may make sense to someone who knows what she is doing, but I am not entirely certain WHICH edge I need to trace and what result I am trying to achieve. Do I just draw a line between the vertices that make up an edge to have all of the the adjacent faces fill in? Were I to want to design something, I suppose I have a little work to do inside the modeling programs. That is reasonable.There are numerous tips given in this book (prepping a build plate, for example), and descriptions of several technology options (single vs. multiple extruders), as well as a section on post-processing of the printed works. Overall, I think it is a good book and I gained some insight into the complexities involved if I wanted to do more than simply download items and print them out. Actually, the complexities involved with just printing ANYTHING: leveling a build plate, prepping it, selecting an appropriate filament type, choosing the optimal orientation for strength and support during printing, etc!So, why not 5 stars? I feel that several of the photographs would benefit from higher resolution and color. For example, the artwork on page 22, the final product on page 248 and the two on the bottom of page 311 might be really interesting works, but they just look like muddy black and white photographs. I think the inclusion of a few full-color pages to showcase some of the more interesting final products would be helpful. In my opinion, this book should be paired with a pre-existing understanding of how to use some kind of 3D modeling software, or an introductory book/tutorial on one.

Now be aware that I volunteer at the local library and they have just set up a new 3D Printer Room in their Homework and Learning Lab so before I ordered this book I checked that it would be compatible with the â€œtechnical stuffâ€ they had available.In my instruction period to be a volunteer in this area I found the book helpful, indeed, and I actually used it to make several project on my own, though it was not part of the curriculum. When the day came for the kids to start the program I found several of them actually more knowledgeable than our â€œexpertâ€ and I found some thumbing through my book with interest.There are 20 Projects in all: Architectural Symbol Coaster, Military Insignia Soap Mold, Hanging Lampshade, Reality Capture of a Buddha Charm, Lens Cap Holder, Phone Stand and many others. Each project starts with things youâ€™ll need. It then takes you step by step with lots of pictures and illustrations ends with â€œPrint it!â€ Those expecting to learn how to make prosthetics for war veterans or animatronics worthy of Disney will be disappointed but as they say, you have to start somewhere.Now I have to admit that as an â€œolderâ€ lady I found these projects challenging. The book is also a great starting place for finding websites and resources that will further the learning experience.

One issue right up front - the main reason for wanting this book is that it mentions several software programs in the description. Problem I have is there really isn't much information provided on these programs themselves. Take Inkscape for instance, a freeware vector graphics that I've been using for years (and recommending). Other than a short piece in one of the project instructions about using it to draw a spiral and later to convert an image to a SVG image - there really isn't any information on using the software or even where to get it. As someone who's used the software I was able to understand and follow the directions given with no problem - but I would imagine someone not familiar with this sort of software would be very confused. Not a big deal, just the something that I would have expected given the description of the book.Other than that, I thought the variety of projects covered in the book was decent enough. Someone wanting to go beyond whatever instructions that came with their 3D printer would find some interesting things to maybe do. I see this book as more for someone with some experience rather than someone with none. And as mentioned, you're going to maybe have to figure out how to get and use some of the software packages the projects make use of.

Children and Traumatic Incident Reduction is Book number 2 of the "TIR Application Series" from Loving Healing Press and, as you can imagine from the title, focuses on the application of TIR to children. Book number 1 is Traumatic Incident Reduction and Critical Incident Stress Management, and book number 3 is Addiction and Traumatic Incident Reduction. The fifteen chapters of this book, involving fifteen different authors who are clinicians, therapists, social workers, counselors, and TIR facilitators, including Dr. Gerbode, from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, are divided into three main sections. Part 1 discusses "Tools and Techniques." Part II examines "Results." And Part III gives some "Background and Theory" behind TIR and PTSD. These are followed by a glossary of terms and three appendices with additional information about TIR. The book contains information and anecdotes about TIR techniques used with clients by practitioners around the world. I am willing to read and review any book that is beneficial for children, either for their own reading enjoyment or for adults who are trying to help them. I might give it less stars if I knew more about the industry. The book is too elementary and does not grab you and shake you saying "this is important!" on some items that really are important. I am returning it. I also bought the book How to Make it in Music by Ari Herstand at same time. Ari's is definitely much better. MUCH.

A very complete and realistic overview of every step of the business from the start. The author has a detailed explanation to argument every action in the process.Recomended for DIY/independent artist to make a smart use of resources suited for their current situation

This book was extremely easy to understand. I wouldn't consider myself a music dummy, but this really helped me understand how to market myself as a musician, brand, set up a website, etc. I recommend it to everyone that wants to self-promote.

Nicole Stocker's first grayscale coloring book â€œBeautiful Creaturesâ€ was my first coloring book in this genre. It was so beautiful and beautifully printed, it set a high standard for grayscale coloring books. I have purchased a number of other grayscale books but none have approach the high quality of Ms. Stocker's book until now. Of course, this is the second book in her series and it is as gorgeous as the first book.Where her first book focused on animals, in â€œBeautiful Natureâ€, Ms. Stocker has turned her attention to flowers, plants, and landscapes. I was so very happy to see succulents included as well as some of my favorite flowers (roses, peonies, hydrangea, orchids, and the list simply goes on and on.) The landscapes and plant studies are equally beautiful and will be lovely to color.Since my first venture into coloring grayscale, I have expanded my skills to include markers as well as colored pencils. I find that both work well with this book. I like to use markers to put a color foundation down and then to add shading and blending with my colored pencils.Essentially, coloring with soft pencils in this book is simple â€“ light colors for light areas, medium for medium, and dark for dark areas. You color the light areas first, then the dark areas. Finally, you come through with the medium colors and blend the picture together. I suggest that you have a blending medium (such as a pencil) at hand when working with this coloring book.This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium. In the comments section below, I will list the medium I used for testing and which I usually use for coloring all of my projects.48 Beautiful Nature grayscale designs with plants, flowers and landscapesPrinted on one side of pagePaper is heavyweight, acid-free, slightly rough, white and perforatedPages are water-marked on the back with an area for you to sign your projectsAlcohol-based markers bleed through the paper readilyWater-based markers bleed through in tiny spots with the exception of my Tombows brush end markers which did not bleed through in my tests.Gel pens and India ink pens do not bleed through.Colored pencils work remarkably well with this paper. I could lay down great color, layer, and blend equally well with both wax and oil based pencils. I did find that soft lead pencils were somewhat easier to work with as they blend more readily.If you use markers, I suggest that you either remove the pages from the book to color or use a blotter page below your working page to keep ink from seeping through to the page below. I use card stock but a couple of sheets of heavyweight paper work just as well.

Beautiful Nature is just the best follow-on from Nicole Stockers first book, Beautiful Creatures.The paper is again of the highest quality and my pencils have a veritable love affair with the pictures.This book contains the most interesting grayscale nature photographs just ripe to be brought to life -everything from succulents along with sea & landscapes to mountains & flowers - something for everyone.If you purchase this book (and/or its predecessor) you will not be disappointed.

What is grayscale? Grayscale is a type of coloring, typically using colored pencils or pastels to fill in color into what appear to be black and white photos. The shades of gray help you determine where your lighter and darker shades go and if you follow those then your picture should come out looking as if it was an actual photograph or painting. This sounds so easy. It isn't. It does take time and patience and you may become frustrated with your first one or two but the end product is so worth it!!! And this book is absolute perfection. Nicole has used heavy paper, printed on one side only with a lovely border around the pictures so that you aren't climbing right up on the binding of the book when you are coloring. Additionally, there are pictures for every skill level from the basic beginner (me) to the ultimate artist (I will do the landscape someday) There is also a great page on Facebook which is run by this author where there are helpful hints and other artists that are more than willing to offer assistance and encouragement.Pros: Heavy paper with a nice feel Detailed, well designed photos for every level Support for beginners or anyone needing the extra help Long term entertainment without becoming bored (oh look...another butterfly or mandela)Cons: A bit intimidating at first but take baby steps and it will be ok No clue how long until her next book.These are self published and done beautifully. The pride of ownership shines through in this book. I actually had Beautiful Animals before and pre-ordered this book as soon as it became available. It was well worth the wait.

Lost legends is an amazing â€œcontinuationâ€ of gravity falls! The art is great, the cover and page quality is amazing, the humor is good and the stories themselves are fantastic! These stories arenâ€™t just four random adventures that would be considered filler if they were actual episodes; these stories have meaning, extra lore, character development, heartwarming feels, and even tie up some loose ends that the tv series and journal 3 left open! The stories take place before Dipper and Mabel went home at the end of the summer so I guess itâ€™s not really a continuation, but instead just a bunch of interesting adventures that the tv series and journal 3 never touched upon.Story #1 is a Dipper and Pacifica adventure, but donâ€™t worry, thereâ€™s no more dipcifica than there is in the episode â€œNorthwest Mansion Mystery.â€ This adventure has some good character development for Pacifica! Story #2 is just hilarious and fun, not really serious but still worth reading and impossible not to love, especially if youâ€™re a fan of comic books, graphic novels or manga! Story #3 has the most feels of all four stories and provides some great character development for Mabel! I wonâ€™t say too much of what Iâ€™m talking about to avoid spoilers, but letâ€™s just say it addresses the whole â€œMabel is so selfishâ€ criticism that some people have with Mabelâ€™s character. If youâ€™re one of those people, this story just might redeem Mabel for you! And lastly, Story #4 is an adventure about the Stan twins when they were kids and has some good feels and character development for Stan and Ford! And of course, thereâ€™s tons of codes sprinkled throughout the book! All of these stories feel like real episodes, not some haphazardly thrown together cash grab! Overall, just like journal 3, this book is a must read for all gravity falls fans! I implore you not to pass this over by thinking itâ€™s a cash grab or wonâ€™t be as good as the show! Lost legends is very much worth your time and money!

Already a big fan of Mr. Whatâ€™s-His-Face and love the PacificaXDipper ship! Give you a closer look at the bonds between the Stan twins and Dipper and company run through different comic books (canâ€™t stop laughing at manga Gideon) Thereâ€™s also more than one message hidden in this collection so be sure to keep your eyes open (Hint one of them is when Pacifica is reading from the Journal. The others your on your own)! So stop reading this and buy it already!

This book is AWESOME! So many hidden Easter eggs, jokes, and other things most writers wouldn't put in a book (don't wanna spoil though!). I love it!!!!

This was a fun way to revisit the series.My son has been waiting for this since we preordered it at Christmas, and I think it was worth the wait.Thereâ€™s some pretty funny stuff going on here - I laughed several times. Of course, my son was so excited for me to read this (he had already read it twice, even though he had only gotten it a couple days earlier) that he was hanging on my every emotion. But I liked seeing him so excited about something.And some of it is so meta.If youâ€™re a fan of the series, I would definitely recommend this.And what does it bode for the future? I donâ€™t know, but Iâ€™m really curious to seeâ€¦

I'm a huge fan of gravity falls and this book is exactly what I needed! The stories are so well written that they feel like they are a part of the show and the art is absolutely stunning. I was blown away at how well done the book is when I first opened it! The cover of the book is also wonderful; it's amazing quality! Its well worth its price!

Lost Legends is a great little morsel that will surely entertain. These colourful stories fall short on straying away from the original feel of the television series. The artwork and writing are alive and fantastic, never giving a dull moment. The look of the book is great, too. With a sleek and wonderfully designed outer shell, to its bare question-marked cover hidden underneath. Definitely a great addition for any Gravity Falls fans' collection.Or even if you're not a fan, just keep this book around anyway. I hear it can ward off those pesky men in black that are always knocking at my do--I mean, your door.

An absolutely lovely collection of tales,brought me right back to the warm feelings I had when watching the show for the first time. It had me laughing three pages in! Each story has amazing charm and the art is just wonderful. I found myself studying all the backgrounds and details. I really hope to see more Gravity Falls comics in the future!

Do you want a third season of Gravity Falls? Do you want a venue where Gravity Falls can be a smidge more "adult" in presentation? Well this book is probably as close as you're gonna get. It's "cannon-ish" and tells 4 stories of events that occur between episode 12 of season 2 and the show's end (so more like side stories rather than a continuation). Still, it's written by Hirsch himself and he hasn't lost a beat. And you better like nerdy references because you're gonna get a bunch of them! It's not a long read by any means, but the ride is well worth the price. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to read it again...
