I bought this for my niece who's a Senior in High School, leaving for college soon. I wanted to send her off with a few books such as, etiquette, clothing styling, hair styling, makeup, etc. I stumbled upon this book in my search for "General Style / Clothes." Honestly, prior to now, I've despised Seventeen as a publisher, for everything they are. I used to get the Magazine as a teenager, loved it then, but now without going into a host of blah blah blah no one cares about my opinions on life blah blah blah I grew a much hated attitude towards it.However, as I do love books in general, I gave every well - rated book a chance, checked out the preview provided and was surprised at what I found. So I ordered it, knowing I could return it / sell it back / whatever, if I didn't want to give it to my niece. When it arrived and I browsed through it, I was more than happy to present it to my niece. It had basic wardrobe pieces, body size clothing suggestions, shopping suggestions, wardrobe budget mix n' matches, etc etc. I really did love it!!!

This book is great for teenagers 13 and up looking for ways to style your outfits, it gives you outfit ideas and accessories

It's a cute book with cute ideas. With the Internet at our fingertips, it probably isn't the best decision to spend money on this, but I understand some people enjoy tangible items to look through. It isn't life changing or anything, so don't expect anything you haven't seen already.

Great book really helps with the combination of clothing. I recommend it for younger people. Maybe pre teens or teens

This is a fun book with lots of great photos. I like that it is organized by style type (classic, girly, boho, etc.) so that you can zero-in on what you like. It is targeted at teenagers and women in their early twenties, but I think it is fun for anyone interested in fashion.

If you are looking to learn about fashion and style this book is a must have.

I really like this book. It's a compillation of different styles, for different people that can guide you to find your look(s). As I said before it's something that's simple but that people can try everywhere, even if you're under a budget. Also, instead of buying for example an over the top price blouse, you can find a similar piece of clothing that instead, because there always lots of places who offer the same over the top blouse for less money, or a similiar one. And it's up to you to make it work! So I definetely recommend this book, along with Lauren Conrad's books (which are about beauty and fashion, and are good too). I only wish thew book was longer!

This book is really helpful in determining what style clothing works best for you. It also helps when putting different pieces of clothes together to get a good looking outfit.

About the Author

Maury Aaseng has always been excited about drawing and art. After graduating with a BFA in graphic design from the University of Minnesota--Duluth, he moved to San Diego to begin an illustration career. His freelance work over the last eight years has spanned a variety of subject matter and styles. The range of his work has included anatomical illustration and cartoons for medical textbooks, informative illustrations for young adult nonfiction, custom watercolor work for independent authors, and logo design and creation. The variety has continued to fuel the creative spark that makes illustration work rewarding for him. In 2010, his artwork was featured in the Upstream People Gallery 7th Annual Color: Bold/Subtle Juried Online International Art Exhibition. An avid nature enthusiast, Maury moved back to Duluth in 2009, where he supplements his illustration work with wildlife photography and painting, hiking, skiing, and canoeing in the northern forests that border Canada. Maury lives with his wife, who works as a graphic designer at the university.Clay Butler is the creator of the weekly alternative political comic strip Sidewalk Bubblegum, co-founder of Claytowne Productions documentary video production company and creator of the online PC Technology humor magazine Pctyrant (an oldie but a goodie), A darn good illustrator, cartoonist, graphic designer, web designer, concert photographer and writer, Clay has been working professionally since 1984.Based out of Nottinghamshire, England, Jim Campbell is a professional comic-book letterer, one-time writer (perhaps again in the future!) and occasional artist (although his enthusiasm rather outstrips his actual ability).Dan D'Addario has been drawing as far back as he can remember. It wasn't until he was in college, that one of his art instructors encouraged him to try doing caricature drawings for a High School Graduation party. He was hooked! Since then Dan has never looked back! Dan is an illustrator and caricaturist in Macomb Township, Michigan. His career spans almost 30 years as a graphic designer in the automotive field. From 1996 until 2008, Dan drew editorial cartoons for Crain's Detroit Business Magazine. A native of the United Kingdom, cartoonist Alex Hallat has never had any art training--just a limited attention span, a love of comics, and a tendency to doodle in lectures at college. She started cartooning fulltime in 1999 and was immediately hired as the cartoonist for Brighton's daily newspaper. In 2003, Alex immigrated to New Zealand but currently lives in the leafy bayside suburb of Elwood, Melbourne in Australia. She has clients in the UK, New Zealand, and Australia and works with the American syndicate King Features, who distributes her comic strip, Arctic Circle.Joe Oesterle is an award-winning writer and illustrator, but what he often fails to mention is that many of those awards were won on a New Jersey boardwalk, shooting a water pistol into the mouth of a plastic clown in an effort to be the first to pop the balloon. He has worked as the Art Director of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle apparel division, and performed double duty as Art Director and Senior Editor at the National Lampoon. His work has appeared in television, radio, books, magazines, and web sites.Among his many impressive professional achievements Joe is especially proud of the fact that a humorous animated short he wrote, directed, and voiced has been on display at the Smithsonian Institution since 2001. I would like to thank Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster for providing me with a free – temporary – electronic ARC of this book, via Netgalley. As I am auto-approved with this publisher, it is my choice and any reviews given are obligation free.My name is Janis and I am a doodler. I feel I’ve already established that with previous books I’ve review, right? Well I’ve always wanted to be able to do cartoon drawings too and have never seemed to get it quite right… no matter how many comics and graphic novels I read, no matter how many cartoons I watch! :-DSo I really enjoyed ‘The Little Book of Cartooning & Illustration’ as it had some great step by step hints and tips that really have encouraged me to try again. I did do some cartoon faces, but as I used a very light pencil they’re not showing up that well in any photos I have taken of them. So, please sceptics of my reviews who say I can’t truly review a book I’ve not tried – I DID try this one, I just can’t show the results. Oh, and please feel free to visit when I am trying the next murder mystery I’m reading. ;-)‘The Little Book of Cartooning & Illustration’ is just that, a quick little book that gives you the step by step basics of generic cartooning. I also liked how it gave step by steps on how to turn a drawing from realistic to cartoonish… is that a word? I feel this is a great book for young and old artists wanting to try – or perfect – their cartooning skills. In the layout and formatting side of things I do have a minor quibble… but it is VERY minor. I really didn’t like the way it kept swapping from portrait to landscape and back again. I am sure, if I had been reading a paperback version of this book it wouldn’t have been as annoying… but I’d still have been frustrated. If I’m using a book to learn a skill that uses my hands I don’t like having to keep moving the position of the book to keep learning. Okay, so this may just be a fault with me, the reader, and not the actual book so relax everyone!Would I recommend this book to others?Yes I would. As said, this book would be a great little guide to get artists – both young and old – to give cartooning a go. Some who feel they can already draw fairly decent cartoons may also benefit from having a quick read through as we should never be too old or too experienced to learn something new.Would I buy this book for myself?Yes I would. If I am serious about illustrating some of my own writing with cartoon figures, I can see ‘The Little Book of Cartooning & Illustration’ being a very helpful book to have on hand… despite the layout quibble. In summary: A good “little book” to add to your collection if you’re interested in doing some cartooning.

This little book of cartooning has a lot of examples and step-by-step instructions mainly to create facial expressions and people, with the last part of the book dedicated to animals, objects and how to create 1 and 2 panel gags. It is a friendly guide without much theory and plenty of practice pages to draw on, which makes it suitable for kids.Judging by all the authors involved, I was expecting a guide with more personal techniques and tips based on their work experience, but soon enough I realized it wasn't meant to be an in-depth guide for those seriously studying cartooning. However, it is great for kids and teenagers! it has all those practice pages, enough tips to draw your first characters and even Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga's step-by-step caricatures. It has been made simple enough that you (or your kid) won't struggle or feel overwhelmed and will be eager to try these techniques out.Picture: As usual, I tried a couple of their examples. I must admit it was satisfying to complete something that looks nice, even if it's from the book examples and not from my imagination. *i read this as an eARC*

I can't draw at all, so this book was fun and educational. I sat for hours and played with this book, seeing how well I could copy and put to use what I had learned. I still need to practice, BUT, I'm on my way! Without this, I'd still be dreaming of drawing cartoon characters! Loved it!

Various pencils, papers, markers templates and digital tools were introduced by the author to get the novice sketcher up and running. It was an easy inexpensive way to start. To kick things off, illustrations were drawn that advanced in a step-by-step manner for all of the cartoons. At the end of each, worksheets were provided for practice. The sequence from rough draft to finished drawing in color was clearly demonstrated.Beginning by first drawing an oval, I enjoyed trying my hand at creating a simple face with only the most minor details. Nowhere near the level of the sample, it’s imaginable that that with some careful practice there would likely be an increase in craftsmanship. As the tutorial continued, the initial drawings were further enhanced with basic expressions. Soon, defined tell-tale emotions such as happiness or anger were cleverly drawn upon faces. Finally, adding color to the drawing brought it all to life.Creativity knows no bounds. When it comes to cartooning, the sky's the limit. Experience with an added dash of creativity will yield magnificent results. Having it all, this book is divided into four parts that complement the world of cartoonists. An invaluable resource, this is the go-to book for cartoon drawing. I would highly recommend it to any beginner or aspiring artist interested in further enhancing their ability to masterfully draw cartoons.I send my thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Walter Foster for this digital edition in exchange for an unbiased review.
