Kelly Wearstler is confident enough in her design ability that she tries to challenge herself with going in new directions pretty often. She has defintely proved with this book and her design work for Viceroys Anguilla and Snowmass that she is not a one-Hollywood Regency-trick pony. She has to be commended for not doing years of the same interiors.This book is great as an inspiration piece. I have been overwhelmingly inspired by her work. That said, because Kelly's aesthetic is so layered and textured, it would have been great for her to talk about some of the specific treatments. For example, are all of the wallpapers custom? What was her inspiration for the color and design of the wallpapers? What was the overall feel or direction she was going for when designing her house? How did she select the artwork? Are the furniture pieces high and low or all high end (okay, so they are all high end)? It would be great to get inside her head a little bit.But it seems like most people will probably never have the opportunity to examine her design process with any degree of satisfaction. And I say that only because Kelly Wearstler has turned into a major brand with product extensions all over the place. Brands don't like to be controversial and they don't like to reveal too much about themselves to keep the mystique and fantasy going. I could be wrong, just a feeling.I mean, sure Kelly's in this book with her kids, but it is all about creating a fantasy of having it all: personal beauty, stunning interiors, great kids, a house that has movie star lineage, an awesome wardrobe, glamour and above all wealth. I think she's very smart and media savvy to do it; her books are basically brochures she gets paid for creating. However, I wish there could be a discussion of her work on a deeper level.I do also wish that she would showcase more homes of people with wealth lesser than hers. Her average client is probably not as adventurous either I bet. I'm curious to see what that would look like, but maybe she is too busy to do a lot of residential because she has so many spinning plates?

I liked this one! :) Between this one and Dominicilium Decoratus, I think is her best. The latest one, (Rhapsody), is so-so. I have the very 1st one, Modern something, and that's a good one too. When I'm in the mood for a Kelly Wearstler book, I usually go for this one first. Lots of great ideas and colors, (even if you feel, I don't think my home can look like this), at least you can get some bits and pieces of ideas. Overall, I think this was a great buy! I love amazon, otherwise, if I were to get it anywhere else, I probably wouldn't get a big, thick, heavy book like this. :)

I love leafing through this book when I need a pick-me-up. It's jazzy and bright and unapologetic. I love color and I love this book. I only wish I could replicate the results shown here, but my budget won't allow such grandeur. So I rely on this book to transport me to truly magical places.

Not the best book for realistic inspiration for your next interior project.Very eccentric for my taste and I like living outside of the creative box.Buy this one after you have all the others on your list.Nice photography.The shots with Kelly & her boys seem too staged.I'm going to return my copy. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to flip through it again.

I am a huge fan of Wearstler's irreverent, colorful design, but this book was a serious letdown. For a tome titled "Hue", she was hardly creative with real color. The fabric cover itself is just white! The entire book is just 12 rooms or so shot from different angles to highlight a particular artifact in a particular color. Worst of all, she used the same books and artifacts over and over. The glamor shots of her and her sons were out of place and the spread of her jewelry and shoe collections were quite self-indulgent. While text in a design book is often superfluous, hers is limited to an "interview" at the beginning without any real discussion of the rooms presented. Don't waste your money on this one.

Each of Kelly Wearstlers books has been beautiful and inspiring , once again HUE has done the same. This book offers an exciting way to look at and to remind us to use more COLOR! Each page is a visual treat layered with great design ideas and unique artwork with a fabulous sneak peek into the authors life. LOVE IT!

Tracie has written a book that is truly good. It’s a beautiful, moving love story that will touch your heart. For those of us who are also on this journey, it’s a painful, heart wrenching story of Alzheimer’s, but also an inspirational reminder that we (those that have loved ones with ALZ) do not walk this path alone. The beautiful story of Joe and Retta's love made me laugh and moved me to tears. Seeing the future of my own mother through Tracie's telling of her experience was heartbreaking and eye opening at the same time.As a bibliophile who believes there are too many books and too few hours; this book is really well written, it flows and carries you along. I could not put it down once I started. It makes you care about the people and leaves you changed when it is over. Tracie did a beautiful thing in sharing her story, but also a wonderful job of it. I shared it with my daughter and she read it in one sitting, could not put it down.I highly recommend this for anyone, whether you are impacted by Alzheimer's or not. Truly moving.

When you are living through the dementia/Alzheimer challenges with someone you love, it is overwhelming . This book captures the realities of the emotions, good and bad, while allowing you to see the joys and blessings often overlooked. I couldn’t put the book down and the tender love story of Joe and Reta is beautiful. A must read for anyone looking for ways to lovingly interact with someone suffering from memory loss. Tracie's honesty of her personal emotions as she navigates the challenges of caring for her parents provides hope and reassurance for anyone finding themselves in a similar situation.

Tracie Bevers chronicles the wonderful love story of her parents, Reta and Joe who both succumbed to Alzheimers disease and her (and her family's) journey with them to the very end. The book arrived on a Friday and I finished it in two sittings . . . couldn't put it down. It is both painful and stressful on an entire family when a loved one is stricken with Alzheimers and/or dementia, leaving us with their mind first and then with their physical health. We know our parents or loved ones, when they were healthy and vibrant, would not have wished such a burden on anyone. Tracie creates an engaging narrative that made me laugh out loud more than once and then, of course, shed tears for her, her family and for my family as well. You see, my wife and I are in this same journey with one of our parents now and I remind myself that it is all part of God’s perfect plan and that it is truly a blessing to be able to care for, comfort and serve others....especially the one’s we love. One more 'kudos' to the author, thank you for all the great tips and reference materials in the afterword.

Tracie writes this story through her eyes of her parents. Through this disease she went through the ups and downs with them and how this disease we call Alzheimer’s takes a once vibrant mind and sadly takes it away. The story hopefully will take you through the steps of this journey and hopefully help people realize what they may go through with their loved ones. It brings an awareness that this cruel disease affects 5.7 million Americans. I hope it makes a difference to those who read it. It truly is a love story of two people who loved each other through the very end. Don’t go through your journey alone. There is help out there.

In reading this book I found myself being brought into the trials and frustrations associated with caring for loved ones who have this tragic disease. As well, the author's ability to share the love and victories through the trials gives meaningful direction to those who find themselves in this similar situation.I now know more about this disease than I did before, and am thankful that reading it has given me a platform to minister to those around me about a resource they can go to to help them on this difficult, but rewarding journey. I've watched patients who are caring for spouses and parents with this malady, and their resolve and love is so very inspiring!Even though I have not been down this road...YET! - I would imagine that there is a high likelihood that each of us touches someone who has, or will be at a place that will benefit from reading this excellent book!

I laughed...I cried... Tracie Bevers did an incredible job of pulling me into this heartbreaking, but beautiful love story. Not only a love story between husband and wife, but also of a daughter’s devotion for her parents. “Dancing around the Chaos” is a must read for anyone who has a friend or family member facing Alzheimer’s disease. Included are many very useful resources that would be helpful for any family faced with this terrible disease. Tracie Bevers is very passionate about sharing her experience and vast knowledge. I knew this author and didn’t realize she had written a book until I was told by a friend. I ordered it from Amazon and read it immediately. Tracie was very open and honest about dealing with her parents dementia issues. Very good book to help foresee signs and symptoms of this mental disease. Very easy, quick, but emotional read. Have your tissues ready, if you are like me. I was sad to see signs in my own loved ones.

Jenn Ranter Hook, MA is the founding director of Replanted (www.ReplantedMinistry.org)—a ministry that helps empower the church to support adoptive and foster families. After receiving her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton College, she worked as a therapist for children in the foster care system. She is a trauma-­specialized therapist and a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner. She speaks frequently on topics related to adoption and foster care support, mental health, and trauma. She lives in Dallas, TX with her husband Josh.  Joshua N. Hook, PhD is an associate professor of counseling psychology at the University of North Texas and is a licensed clinical psychologist (LCP). As an adoptive family, and foster care advocates, I believe this is a must-have, essential resource for anyone who seeks to provide faith-based support for adoptive or foster families. This book is a resource that I'm going to be passing along to family, friends and fellow ministry leaders. We've already ordered 20 more copies to share!

In Christian circles, foster and adoptive parents are often escalated to "hero" status. Yet in my experience as a foster and adoptive parent as well as a presenter and consultant on childhood trauma and trauma-informed practices, I recognize the day-to-day life and learning within those roles often feels far from heroic. Instead, it can be harrowing, humiliating, heart-wrenching, and hard to articulate to someone who has not experienced it directly.Replanted acknowledges and honors each of these human dimensions while never compromising its grounding in the holiness of this calling. As an adoptive parent of five boys, I've learned that I need LOTS of resources to keep my marriage and family intact and to keep my sanity. I remember being so passionate about helping the "orphan" - the ache in my chest to raise little ones, the prayer to just have a chance to raise children. However, I was unprepared for the avalanche of issues associated with traumatized children and the broken system that surrounds them. The Replanted book is a must-read for anyone considering adoption or fostering, and a must-read for the church and community that want to support these brave souls. The issues surrounding adoption don't end when the judge signs the adoption decree, they only begin. If you're a parent of a non-biological child, this book can lift you out of isolation and provide hope and if you know someone raising children from hard places, it will provide tangible ways you can make a difference.

This is a great encouraging book resource for foster parents. What I loved most was when it tied back to scripture and used personal life examples. Love the work pages provided st the end of chapters. Fostering is definitely not easy and can be very difficult at times. Completely and utterly agree with the right supports in place foster families and the children they foster can be successful. Doesn’t mean it will be easy but it is definitely worth it. Praise God for others out there wanting to provide good Christian resources to other foster/adoptive families. This book is helpful for anyone fostering or having adopted children. It has real life examples that made me feel "normal" and "not alone" in the struggle to provide hurt children safe and loving homes. Many are often so supportive at the beginning of the foster/adoptive journey but the deeper you get into the trenches of the spiritual battles, the less support seems to be around. This book provides helpful insights on how to wrap around those facing similar circumstances so that we can be stronger together and have encouragement through the journey rather than feeling a constant disappointment and discouragement. This book is a MUST have for church leaders that are leading foster/adoptive support programs!

I really wish that I would have had this book before I started my foster care and adoption journey because it would have changed things along the way. However, it is also very much applicable for veteran foster parents, adoptive parents, churches and child placing agencies. Throughout the book, I found so much validation in what I was seeing and experiencing. Having my own experiences normalized was comforting. The questions at the end of each chapter really help you process and apply what you've learned. It will be a book I will keep handy for the years to come and return to as life changes.

The Knitter's Book of Knowledge, A Complete Guide to Essential Knitting Techniques, by Debbie Bliss is a massive compendium of everything one might want to know about knitting. Although it is large, it is not unwieldy. The reader will be able to keep it by her side as she knits, to refer to when she has a question of any sort.Debbie Bliss is a top designer and instructor who is internationally famous for her patterns and her teaching. This guide contains a distillation of her years of knitting in an easy to understand, helpful and user-friendly guide.The book is divided into eleven parts. There is also an introduction (as well as resources and graph paper at the end).Chapter 1 contains information on the basics of "Yarns, Needles, and Other Things". This is a great beginning chapter which explains everything the reader might need. It goes into specific types and weights of yarn specifically and thoroughly. The photos are glorious. If you have never knitted before, this is a perfect place to begin. There is a list of equipment which will eventually be required as well, such as knitting needles of various sizes. Also explained are items such as row counters, scissors, cable needles, crochet hooks and more.Chapter 2 is titled "First Steps". The knit stitch and the purl stitch are taught here. Readers who have already learned how to knit might want to check this beginner chapter out as well, as there are techniques for casting on and binding off which may be helpful to them. The great illustrations by Cathy Brear, which are essential to understanding exactly how something is being done, and which appear throughout this beautiful book, are in evidence here. They really assist in making the author's instructions that much clearer.The knit stitch and the purl stitch are also offered in their versions both in US and UK, as well as Continental! How cool! For you left-handed knitters, you are not left out either! The Knitter's Book of Knowledge has everyone covered. This is the chapter you will go back to again and again as you bind off, too. It has all the different methods here in one spot.Chapter 3 is called "Understanding Knitting". Here the reader will be exploring some of the technical aspects of knitting, as well as the language and terminology used. Basic knitted fabrics are explained, and how to read a knitting pattern and a charted pattern. You will learn how to knit a gauge swatch, and why. Certain basic essentials such as how to substitute a yarn and joining in a new ball of yarn appear here. A number of techniques including picking up stitches are included in this chapter.Chapter 4 is titled "Shaping". The reader will be learning more on how to add or subtract stitches and how to dome and disk shapes, for example, a sock heel.In the case of the sock heel, a special technique is provided to dispel any concerns about knitting socks. How cool is that? This book is truly fantastic and only gets better!Chapter 5 is called "Knitting in the Round". Circular knitting goes way back. Early knitters originally created garments in this manner. Within this chapter you have circular needles, double-pointed needles, and a great method is explained concerning when and how to use the magic loop. Among other techniques in this chapter, a pattern for medallions is offered. This is very lovely.Chapter 6 is all about "Knitting Texture". This is a fascinating chapter which included patterns for all sorts of cables,back cross and front cross, a number of bobbles, knitted lace and more. Textural stitches explained here include the elongated stockinette stitch, elongated garter stitch, dip stitch and ladder stitch. This chapter is packed, as there are even more including loops, tucks. picots, and one of my special favorites, the entrelac technique.What a gift this book would make for the aspiring knitter in your circle of friends or family! It truly bursts with tons of information on knitting--and it is not done yet!Chapter 7 is an explanation of "Color Knitting". This will teach the reader all about patterns which use color as part of their design. There is a color wheel and discussions of color families and color values. I found this chapter to be wonderfully useful for any sort of designer of any kind of craft.. The author explains how to work from a chart, using color. She discusses techniques such as controlling multiple yarns. Stripes of all sorts and carrying multiple yarns are discussed here. Slip-stitch knitting and intarsia, vertical color change and how to hold different numbers of strands of yarn in your hands are all explained. Weaving in is explained here as well as edge stitches in color knitting.Take a breath; it is on to Chapter 8. This gorgeous chapter concerns embellished knitting. The reader will be adding embroidery, duplicate stitch, decorative stitches (wait until you see the offerings!), and bead knitting of all sorts, never forgetting to include how to finish your piece. Trimmings, fringe, pom-poms and other embellishments such as crocheting are offered in this chapter. It is a mindblowing collection which will embellish the reader's plainer knitted pieces and adds that wow factor we all love.Chapter 9 is titled "Finishing". As the author says, "[Finishing] seems to be something that many knitters find rather intimidating". However, she is reassuring, even as she stresses the importance of finishing your work properly. The reader will learn how to block, how to pin out on a blocking board, how to mattress stitch on stockinette,mattress stitch on reverse stockinette, on single rib, double rib and other patterns. Slip stitching and sewing on cast-on and bound-off ends are explained for the reader. As this is a very important part of the knitting process, there are pages and pages more on how to finish specific kinds of knitted pieces. The reader will be able to find and clearly understand exactly what she needs in this very thorough and useful chapter.Chapter 10 is titled "Designing Knits". What a lovely introduction the author provides concerning designing your own projects!She explains that if the reader has been less than confident concerning her own designs, she might look back to the first thing she ever made. Possibly it was a scarf, self-designed. As she says, "And the steps from designing a scarf to designing a sweater are smaller and easier that you might think."This chapter goes from finding inspiration, to photography, to mood boards, scrapbooks and sketchbooks to creating a collection. Then the author discusses designing to fit and basic garment shapes.The reader will be constructing a diagram and developing a design. Insight into the use of patterns and their practicalities are given. Color-effect yarns and textures are discussed. Every single chapter which came before this one contributes to this elegant coming together of making a pattern. Then, the reader will learn to write a pattern, calculating yarn quantities, and considering whether this will be for a baby, an adult, a boy or a girl. Included are accessories and homewares such as blankets and pillows. What a great job she did corralling all the information you might need into one really fine reference book!The following chapter is one we all need at one time or another: Chapter 11, "Troubleshooting". Here is where the reader will learn how to correct mistakes if they have been found early enough. The author assists the reader with dropped knit stitches and dropped purl stitches, up to multiple rows down, as well as dropped stitches on an edge and unraveling. Twisted stitches are resolved, as are extra stitches. There is a wealth of errors which are fixed for the reader in this chapter. Even mending and darning are included within this chapter. What a consolation to have this book when you realize you have made a mistake while knitting. I have been knitting off and on for 25 years. Lots of hats, gloves, scarfs, some baby sweaters and such. I always knew I had more to learn (not enough time unfortunately). Well, I committed to learning a bit more and so I picked up this book.I have already learned a few things. Different casting methods, and some alternative ways of binding off (used one recently on a scarf).It is a nicely organized book. I have not read it all yet, but the parts I did read were well written and clear. I enjoyed reading the first chapter which basically goes over the tools. There are some neat tools out there, that I was not aware off (like the the different kinds of ball holders - ceramic etc.) this book even teaches you how to wind a ball so that you can then get the yarn from inside the ball (instead of the outside). Really some things are simple and you wonder how you didn't think of it.It is true that you can look up a lot of stuff on the internet (and I have done that many times), but you must know what to look for. But looking and reading through this book you learn what you would not even have thought of looking up. And it is in a well compiled book.Recently, my mother made a sweater for my toddler, but it was too short. It was a shame. But after checking out this book, I was aware that the book has a section on "lengthening and shorting" a knitted fabric. (it has a really useful chapter called "troubleshooting"!). I gave it a try. It was a bit of a challenge, as I and my mother use European knitting stitch and the book is designed for US knitting. But the instructions were clear enough that after some adjustments I was able to make it work and it turned out pretty well.So far my impression is that the book has some chapters that are great for a beginner knitter. Lots of info on different types of yarns and just necessary info to get started, but it also has lots of info for those of us who have been knitting for a while but never really studied knitting. I have read lots of patterns and have done lots of projects, but never have I actually got a book this detailed. It has a lot for most knitters to learn from.I would recommend it for anyone who likes to have a knitting source on hand, and would like to learn some more techniques, or learn to knit different textures and work with colors and so on. Although I have done a lot of this before, I just did it on the go, yet this book provides you with techniques to make your project nicer and a bit more perfect!

Definetly one reference guide book you can use for years to come and Money well spent. It is a high quality book, the paper they printed on is nice and thicker then what you usually find. Navagating through it has been pretty simple and straight forward. I have been looking for a quality reference book and this is it. It coveres a broad range of topics. And over all is a beautiful book. Getting back into knitting this has been extremely helpful has a go to book and with it's advance topics covered I know I will continue to use it for years to come. I do wish it came on the kindle, as hauling it a round it take up quite a bit of space. Although it lives beautifully on my ottoman/coffee table, so it's always near by. I found it to be well written and easy to follow. I have purchased more copies as gifts for my knitting friends, as they would borrow mine for their knitting projects as a reference book. Thankful to find such a practical book, that provides such usefulness multiple areas of knitting. I really love books, which leads me to have read and collected a decent collection of knitting books along my knitting journey. Many fall short of the mark for me in one way or another but The Knitters Book of Knowledge is easily in my top 3 knitting books and one I wouldn't wish to give up. Yes there is google and you tube, but for me sometimes I really just want a book not an internet to search for answers. The price I paid here for the quality was a steal of a deal to me.

I am a beginner knitter. I originally rented this from my library. It has so much information in this book, I told the librarian I just purchased it because there was no way I could finish reading the book within 3 weeks. It's a must have for your library collection. This book has everything.

I really despise romance novels. I wish this book had been in that category instead of suspense. I would never have purchased it. This woman is completely unbelievable. I wonder how much money she wasted on food she couldn't/was too distraught/too upset to eat. She was also too immature to be responsible for herself, let alone a teenager. Dumb book.

I loved this book! There's a very disjointed family, with two daughters left to take care of and raise themselves in a very small community. Unfortunately the situation happens more than one would like to believe. The younger daughter rebels, leaving the older single sister left to try to pick up the pieces. Time passes, the sisters become estranged, then unexpectedly the older daughter is left once again to pick up the pieces with a very smart but damaged teenage niece who struggles to find her unknown father. A series of events threaten to tear them apart, after they knit an unbreakable bond. I love the main characters and didn't want the book to end. The end was not surprising, but the author does a wonderful job of creating understanding and healing leaving the reader feeling good. I hope the author writes another like this.

Kerry Ann King is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this book. It was an engaging read the whole way through. I like how the author develops the characters - they are interesting, realistic and sympathetic. In this book I particularly liked how people's perspective changed as they (and the reader) learned more details about what happened in the past, and why people did what they did.I got a tiny bit frustrated with two of the main characters toward the very when they kept getting in their own way of being happy, but it was mild. The ending was very convenient and predictable in a way that may not seem plausible to some but I liked how it went, that's why I read fiction instead of biographies and documentaries.

This is a new author for me. I ran across her by accident following a publishing house Facebook page. She was hosting the page for the week and talking about her newest release. I read all the comments between her and her readers and all spoke so highly of Closer to Home I went to Amazon to check it out. It grabbed me right off the bat and I finished it in 3 sittings. Easy to read. Great storyline. Great storytelling. Likable characters. I enjoyed it very much and will now order her new book. I loved this accidental find of a new author to me.

I really don’t know what to write about this book. Even though it was well written and edited, it was not a book that I enjoyed. It was becoming annoying with one of the characters constantly worrying about the paparazzi taking pictures. I found the ending was easy to figure out half way through the book. The love the aunt had for her niece was beautiful and that is what kept me reading. I am sure there are a lot of people who would love this book.

If I could, I would rate this 4.5 stars (I reserve 5 stars for Pulitzer quality). Easy to fall into the story and characters and immerse yourself in the raw emotions they experience. I read it in one day. I would equate this with an Emily Giffin novel (one of my favorite authors).The main character is forced to face long-blocked memories about her sister, her parents, and her childhood sweetheart as she is thrown into a crazy fast-paced search for truth with her sister's sixteen-year-old daughter. The use of flashbacks is so well-handled by the author, they serve to propel the story forward with ease (often flashbacks have the opposite effect). Description and characterization is so expertly handled, you might forget you are reading a narration. The voice of the main character is superb.

Absorbing and emotionally observant, CLOSER HOME, is a novel that is intricately plotted and intriguing from the very first page that examines matters of love and loss, and loyalty and regret. What sets it apart is the uniqueness of its situation: a recent noteworthy death, millions of dollars up for grabs, a journey undertaken to resolve a mystery … and all of it conducted under the glaring and merciless eye of the media. Beautifully told through a cast of truly relatable characters as deeply human as their flaws, this story is compelling to the very satisfying end. Not one you will soon forget.

I liked this story, but some parts were a little boring and I started skimming. But it was the ending that ruined it for me. Of course I knew who would be the father, that part was really predictable but still gave me a headache. I just don’t understand why Dale would keep it a secret for so many years, when he supposedly loved Lise. And the ending was so rushed, it took only hours (a few pages) from the big reveal to when she forgave him. I just can’t relate at all.
