Annie Sloan is the best for painting techniques and colors and Colour Recipes for Painted Furniture and More does not disappoint. I was especially intrigued with her color mixing. I have long painted old furniture and have not yet found better ideas and techniques than Annie Sloan offers and this book provides many new ideas using her chalk paints.

Fun book that makes somewhat complex approaches seem really possible, but not enough projects in the book for the price, especially since so much project info is available online. That said, I do really like her repeated approach of saying she tried something, didn't like it, so tried something else until she got what she liked. That liberating idea alone (to keep working the materials--the paints, basically) might actually be worth the price of the book. The images are gorgeous and definitely left me wanting more. Made me really see why chalk paint can achieve some truly worthwhile results, and made me realize that I wanted to start from this position of being willing to work in more complex ways (with multiple colors in layers, some watered down, maybe some color mixing) in order to achieve a unique, deeply loved, durable dining table.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is a handy book for when you want to do some creative paint mixing. She gives 40 projects, some of which are unlikely to be suitable for US houses, but are a pleasure to read about. You can use her techniques to transform a piece of furniture no one else would give a second look.The ASCP is expensive, so making new colors is a real plus.There is Annie Sloan's own color wheel, using her colors and techniques. Including the warm/cold color theory for decorating. She paints a chair before taking off the old upholstery, demos faux marble, stenciled walls, and painted floors, & shows how to put colors together in a room, and HT dye fabric using her paint, among the many projects. This is a good book that answers the questions you might have. Her own house in France gets the paint-over and my only complaint is that she made me want a house in France of my own.

This book is very inspiring. I've never painted with chalk paint before and now that I understand Annie's color wheel and the combos you can make, I can't wait to try it on our end tables and some shelving we have around the house! Just have to save up a little bit, as the paint is quite expensive. I feel that this book is the perfect introduction to chalk paint. I've also supplemented with some youtube videos, which is quite helpful.

But now I cant wait to get started.This book explains everything step by step clear on down to mixing colors to create more colors.Pictures of stuff done over are stunning .Its like a walk through of her house but never going there except in your mind with the pictures and stories of her home and things she refinished

I loved every single one of these books and the projects I've done through the use of these books have come out very well. I am very pleased and highly recommend them. So does a wee mole who crawls in the mitten. So does a rabbit snuggling right down. So do a forestful of animals, all enchantingly portrayed with expressions of increasing annoyance as a ox---a fox and then a great big bear climb into the sot warm mitten.But---a tiny mouse, a latecomer, climbs on bear's nose causing a big sneeze which propels all the critters hither and yon, and tosses the mitten through the air just in time for Nikki who is searching to catch it. On the last page, Nikki is happily toasting his toes by the fire while Grandma holds up the mittens she has knitted puzzled indeed about why has stretched and stretched.The story abounds with delights for reader and listeners: the text is written with almost a poetic cadence with lovely sounding words; the illustrations are bright with color and joyously composed, the story tickles the imaginations and offers a grand platform for talking about animals who might or might not fitten into a mitten. For my family, this was a perfect Christmas-tide story even here on a tropical island .Any Reader Alerts? None at all. This is pure enchantment at a very affordable price. Very highly recommended.

This book is beautiful. The illustrations are ethereal and adorable. The story is sweet and old fashioned in a good way. It might be a long read for young children, but I think it's worth it.It's not neutral colors and relaxing, I like that about books. It's not neon colors and flashy stories with no meaning, just to hold children's attention. It uses some old fashioned terminology and language, but that's a good thing because I don't feel it panders to younger readers.It's beautiful. Get the book!

Beautiful story for children. Grandmother Baba makes white mittens for Nicki but warns him that white mittens are easily lost in the snow. Sure enough Nicki loses one mitten. One by one the animals big and small find shelter and each other inside the mitten. Then the bear sneezes and the animals fly out of the mitten. The mitten sails up into the air and Nicki finds it. Lovely Ukrainian folktale adapted by Jan Brett. Very beautifully illustrated.

You never forget a Jan Brett book!I purchased this book for my classroom, since we are studying the world and culture through music! Couldn't think of a better story to read to my class of 3-5 year olds.I never forgot her illustrations and the book was exactly how I remembered it when I last read it at six years old!

I bought this as a baby gift - the start of a library for him. It was one of my favorite books to read to my children and one that they loved. It is a joy to read and it made me laugh the 100th time I read it. Illustrations are marvelous

I wouuld give it a million stars if possible, EXCELLENT book/advice. I've start the coconut oil in my eyes and they feel so much better since I stop the eye drops. Bought both the Kindle edition and a book. Now I'll be able to loan the book out to others. Really a good book, thank you to the author. Very easy to read and understand.

This book gives real and practical ideas about what to do to bring about healing. I loaned the book to my naturopath and we designed a plan for me to follow. Further following his suggestions about diet affecting inflammation, we've "gone keto." I also picked up his ketogenic diet support book which is simple (most on this topic are not) and easy to follow.

Disclosure: I was contacted by the author, who sent me a review copy of this book free of charge.The ability to see is something we usually take for granted until we start having problems. Loss of vision due to cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration becomes more common as we age, but eye problems can develop throughout the life cycle. I've had several eye disorders: bilateral strabismus ("lazy eye") requiring surgery when I was seven, medium myopia (nearsightedness) since around that age, and most recently presbyopia ("old eyes" -- farsightedness after the age of 40). I also have a strong family history of glaucoma, so doing whatever i can to preserve the sight I have is extremely important to me.Dr. Bruce Fife is a naturopath, certified nutritionist, and director of the Coconut Research Center. He's a prolific author, having written 20 books based on his extensive review of the literature on the benefits of coconut oil and its medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). In his latest book, Stop Vision Loss Now!, he provides evidence that a well-balanced, nutrient-rich, very-low-carbohydrate diet supplemented with coconut oil may help to prevent and even reverse some of the most common eye disorders associated with aging.The major concept of the book is that the eyes are an extension of the brain, so whatever keeps the brain healthy and well nourished will do the same for the eyes. There's a growing body of research demonstrating that maintaining blood glucose and insulin levels as close to normal as possible can help preserve brain function and reduce the risk for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. According to Dr. Fife, many researchers now believe that although increased intraocular pressure is involved in glaucoma, its primary cause is that nerve cells within the brain become damaged, similar to what happens in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. He explains that coconut oil increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a gene that stimulates the growth, maintenance, and repair of these nerve cells.. Dr. Fife suggests that the increase in ketone levels that occurs in response to MCT can protect eye health and improve or potentially reverse degenerative eye disorders as a result of increased BDNF. In addition to age-related conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, coconut oil can also be used for dry eyes, eye infections, and other non-vision-limiting conditions.*In addition to generous amounts of healthy fats and moderate amounts of protein, Dr. Fife recommends including a wide variety of nonstarchy vegetables and berries to reduce oxidative stress that can lead to eye disease. He advises selecting from three different levels of carbohydrate intake based on blood glucose levels and provides a sample menu for a typical day, along with guidance on meal planning and dining out. Lists of protective low-carbohydrate foods and a comprehensive net carb counter are included. Although there isn't a lot of published research on the benefits of coconut oil for eye disorders, he makes a great case for including it as part of a whole-foods-based, low-carbohydrate diet in Stop Vision Loss Now!*Regardless of whether these changes in diet and lifestyle improve your vision, if you have an eye disorder, you should continue to see your ophthalmologist at least once a year for monitoring.

Wonderful Book, Packed full of great information if you want to save your eye site. I wish I'd gotten it sooner but it is still a great help even though I'm had to have a cataract surgery already. There is more to our eyes that just the lense.

The information in this book has triggered an attempt to follow the suggestions. Already I have improvement in my vision (after about 2+ weeks of using them and I am 80+ year old woman. Excellent book, Dr. Fife! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! Knowing how a Keto diet affects literally every function of the body is priceless. His writing style and ability to explain everything in layman's terms makes understanding the connection between health and diet so much easier to follow. I highly recommend this book as a reference piece that could change or save your life or the life of someone you know. Dr. Fife is one of the most well informed doctors you will ever find on nutrition so it's a no-brainer to purchase and read ALL of Dr. Fife's books.

This is the first book by Dr. Fife that I completely read. "Stop Vision Loss Now!" contains some very useful insights that I now use. OTOH, it isn't perfect. While I use coconut oil every day, other aspects of his ketogenic diet leave me cold. I doubt if anybody anywhere follows a strict ketogenic lifestyle long-term, excepting maybe a castaway. In fairness to Dr. Fife, he does point out different aspects of a ketogenic lifestyle that many people *can* embrace and still reap a benefit.

I found this book almost useless as I traveled through both islands. Really disappointed. Aimed at those who are interested in "doing" the standard tourist traps. There is some much more to New Zealand than is even hinted at in this book.

Used this for our honeymoon to both islands, in conjunction with NZ Frenzy. Found the maps helpful and there were decent details about landmarks. Wish they had more info on hikes and interesting sights.

We first purchased the ocean book & loved it. We then bought the others including this title "Nighttime". Each child has different favorites, but they are all really good quality & very educational.Our favorites are the ocean, night & safari. If you do have younger one's as others have noted the pop-ups are somewhat easy to pull out so be careful; however, the younger one's really enjoy them as well so I would still share them w/ them. I actually kept the pieces they pull out & you can use them in scrapbooking or arts/crafts. So, while they tear them out of the book at least you can find another use for them.The sound can vary a bit from book to book in the series & sometimes can be loud. This can be good/bad depending on your child. As an adult it is really neat to turn each page & have the sounds of the animals/mammals/species sound out at you (depends on which book in the series you buy - for example in the ocean book our favorite page with sound are the whales). If the adults find it enjoyable then the children must love it!!!These books are a very good find - the quality is excellent & there is so much to learn in them & they are fun!Highly recommend.

I bought this book for my 16 month old daughter because she is into "animal sounds" and we both love Maurice Pleger books. It is our first Maurice Pledger sounds book. It think it has become her new favorite (and we have ALOT of books!!!!)The sounds are interesting and pretty realistic for this type of media. The pictures are amazing. If you open and close it slightly the animals move and the sounds keep playing. The whole experience is incredibly lifelike and multisensory. Because my daughter is so young we just turn the pages and name the main animals in the scene and try to copy the sounds ourselves, but I like that she will get more and more out of it as she gets older.This is a wonderful break from "baby books" and will fascinate toddlers as well as older children. It can be discussed as in a simple or complicated way and would help develop vocabulary in children at many different developmental levels. Unlike the touch-and-feel adventures, however, I do not leave this book when she can get it to look at by herself. This book would be easily destroyed by a younger child left unsupervised. Even when she is with me she wants to pull at the pop-ups because she is used to books with flaps that lift, but we get to learn another good concept - "gentle!"I am definately going to collect the other Maurice Pledger "Sounds" books and recommend this one highly!

I was just amazed at these attention catching books. The sounds are loud and mimic the animals just perfect. The pictures are so interesting, and the information is not even necessary to make you want to purchase them but usable for an older child's added education. This author opens up a world children haven't engaged in yet. Marvelous work!

This is perfect for the 18 mos. - 3 years old crowd. My son just turned two and is heavy into animal sounds. Each page has lots of animals and has a distinct sound that plays. Our highlight is the wolf howling. The main danger is him destroying the pop-up art on the pages but this one is fairly sturdy.

I initially saw this book while on vacation at a museum store. I bought other books, but did not want to pack this book and risk damage by baggage handlers. When I returned home, I checked Amazon who had a much better price for the book. Imagine my surprise that there were others in the series. This book is well made with sturdy paper pop-ups. Some pop-up books are so delicate, they tear with the first touch. This one not only is quality paper, but the sounds were realistic and fun. I think I'm just a kid at heart and was just fascinated with the book. I "guess" I'll give it to one of my nieces who loves pop up books, with the caveat that she has to share it with me! LOL. I also plan on ordering the Jungle, Birds and Ocean ones so my other nieces and nephews will have their own books.I would highly recommend this particular book. I have no hesitation to buying the other books in the series since I am so impressed with the quality, color, sounds and liveliness of the pop-up books.

I like the nighttime book the most out of the pleger series. it has a mood that the others don't and the sounds are a little gothic. some would say its too scary for little kids but my 2 year old asks for it every night before bed. I purchased it used so you can tell it's been loved on and for good reason.

It is interesting for young children to learn about animals that are active at nighttime in comparison to daytime animals. Sounds really intrigue a young reader.

This was a gift. Pretty book. Extra information about animals is good as child gets older. Sounds are realistic. Not sturdiest for pop- up book but would probably be used with adult supervision. Would recommend as teaches and entertains.
