My husband LOVES this (and the So California version) and we have taken many trips with our off road truck and Turtleback Trailer using the information within.
It's a good trail guide book. Trails are explained and rated very well.
WOW this was really helpful for giving us something fun to do with the new Jeep Rubicon. Ratings are a great guide. Mostly the trails are pretty sedate - but there are are quite a few hard ones listed to keep the rest of us happy. The history of the area is also interesting. The GPS coordinates are a huge bonus, better than wandering around wondering if you are allowed to be on this trail or not. Definately recommend - it worth the money in savings on wasted fuel - and driver/navigator harmony ;-)
handy book to have around
This is the most thorough resource for off road travel I have seen. I found some beautiful and fun roads near my home town that I was completely unaware of. This book is perfect for those who have stock vehicles and want to enjoy the backroads. You will know in advance whether your vehicle can handle the route without getting damaged or stuck. (Yes, there are also some more difficult roads in the book for those who are equipped and need a challenge.)The maps are easy to use and sufficiently detailed to find your way in the most confusing dirt road mazes of the Sierras. In addition to the specific descriptions for each road, the historical, geological and other information is great. If your passenger gets bored, just give them this book and there is plenty to read.
